Concordia Seminary Offers Choir Member Workshop
Concordia Seminary will offer its eleventh annual Schola Cantorum, a choir member workshop on Saturday, January 20, 2001, from 8:30 a..m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration, all rehearsals, and the morning and closing prayer will be held in The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus on the Seminary campus.
“The annual workshop is designed to allow choir members the opportunity to learn and rehearse new choral music, to learn better the art of singing and to gain insight from a distinguished guest presenter,” commented Rev. Henry Gerike, Director of Choral Activities at Concordia Seminary and Director of the annual Schola Cantorum workshop. “Choir members, choir directors and ministers of music would be among those who are especially encouraged to attend.”
Dr. Ralph C. Schultz will be this year’s featured director. Dr. Schultz holds the M.Mus. in Composition from the Cleveland Institute of Music and S.M.D. in Sacred Music from Union Theological Seminary. Schultz was professor of music at Concordia College, New York, from 1961 until his retirement in 1998. For 35 years he conducted the Concordia Choir in concerts in Town Hall, Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, as well as tours throughout the United States and Europe. From 1976 until 1998 he also served as president of Concordia College. With his wife Dorothy as poet/collaborator, Dr. Schultz has composed and published numerous choral and solo compositions.
The cost for the workshop is $65 per congregation if registrations are received prior to Jan. 15, 2001 and $75 per congregation thereafter. As a special incentive for congregations of less than 200 members, a reduced registration fee of $50 is offered.
