Concordia Seminary Announces LutherHostel 2002
“Joy in the Journey” is the theme for LutherHostel 2002 to be held Oct. 19-22 on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. LutherHostel is an educational event for adults, 55 years of age or above, held every year at Concordia Seminary. Dr. Dale A. Meyer, professor and occupant of the Gregg H. Benidt Chair in Homiletics and Literature at Concordia Seminary will be the main presenter for the event. The former Lutheran Hour Speaker will lead participants in a daily study emphasizing the “Joy in the Journey” through life as followers of Jesus Christ and children of the heavenly Father.
Scheduled activities for LutherHostel 2002 begin on Saturday evening with a western style cookout. Additional activities include presentations by other Seminary faculty, class visitation, a carillon concert, student-led evening devotions, visiting Concordia Historical Institute, KFUO Lutheran radio station, the Seminary bookstore, some St. Louis sites and browsing in nearby antique shops. An optional tour of the Lutheran historical sites in Perry County, Mo. is also available for LutherHostel participants on Oct. 3, immediately following LutherHostel.
“We make participants a part of the Seminary community through this exciting, enriching experience,” commented Prof. John Oberdeck, director of continuing education and parish services at Concordia Seminary. “It is designed to provide our guests with fresh insights into living the Christian life and, in this way, it is a learning experience for them. Our guests have a lot of fun during these days and they establish new and lasting friendships through this experience.”
Dr. Donald and Wilma Miesner will serve as hosts for the event. Miesner recently retired from Concordia University, Bronxville, New York. Wilma has taught in Lutheran schools for over 30 years, and after retiring, served as an adjunct professor at Concordia University, Bronxville.
The LutherHostel registration fee is $115 per person. Meals and refreshments for the event will be $125 per person. Housing is available on campus (on a limited basis for an additional cost) or in nearby hotels.
