Concordia Seminary Announces Winter Lay Bible Institute
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will host its winter 2006 Lay Bible Institute from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, Jan. 25, and Feb. 1, 8 and 15, 2006, in Sieck Hall on the Seminary campus. “What Does the Indwelling of the Spirit in Christ Mean For You?” will be presented by Dr. Leopoldo A. Sánchez M., assistant professor of systematic theology at Concordia Seminary, who teaches regularly for the Seminary’s Hispanic Institute of Theology.
In this Lay Bible Institute offering, participants will explore how Christians tend to talk about the Holy Spirit in terms of His work in the church through the Word and sacraments, His leading of the believer in the sanctified life or His powerful manifestation in “spiritual gifts.” Through meditation on the rich scriptural witness to the indwelling of the Spirit in Christ, the class will tie the Holy Spirit’s work in the church to His presence in Christ Himself, in His life and mission.
Sánchez has served on the Seminary faculty since 2004. From 2003 to 2004, he was a deployed pastoral staff member of the Hispanic Institute of Theology to Immanuel Lutheran Church, San José, Peninsula and the Central Valley, Calif. He previously served as guest instructor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (2001-2002), and as preacher of Iglesia Evang. Luterana Cordero de Dios, St. Louis (2001-2002). He received the B.A. degree from Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, Wis., in 1995, the M.Div. degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1999 and the Ph.D. degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 2003.
