Thrivent Builds Mobile to Visit Concordia Seminary
The Thrivent Builds Mobile, a traveling exhibit intended to increase awareness of substandard housing, will visit Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, on March 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The 18-wheel truck and trailer will be located in the parking lot between Loeber Hall and The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus on the Seminary Campus. The public is invited to tour the exhibit free of charge.
“We are pleased to host this exhibit which we think will have a dramatic impact on our Seminary community and all who view it,” commented Rev. Glen Thomas, the Seminary’s vice president for seminary relations. “The exhibit takes only 12 minutes to tour and it provides a powerful message. We encourage anyone within a reasonable drive of the Seminary to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Designed to educate and engage people of all ages, the Thrivent Builds Mobile encourages individuals to become involved in an effort to address the problem of substandard housing in the United States and around the world. Those who tour the exhibit will be given an opportunity to volunteer their efforts in constructing a Habitat for Humanity house in the St. Louis area. They will also be given an envelope in which they can make a donation toward the Thrivent Builds program at a later time. Events will include demonstrations, displays, activities for children and more.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has teamed with Habitat for Humanity International, forming an alliance called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, to offer assistance to families in need of adequate housing. Thrivent’s partnership has a $21.7 million goal to increase Habitat home production by six percent and to create additional homeownership opportunities for low-income families, Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are joining together to build up to 312 U.S. homes in 2006. Seven of these homes will be built in the greater St. Louis area. The Thrivent Builds Mobile is traveling across the United States throughout 2006 to highlight the partnership Thrivent has formed with Habitat for Humanity and to increase support for this effort.
