Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, is pleased to announce the 15th season of the concert series Bach at the Sem, featuring presentations of the music of J. S. Bach by The American Kantorei under the direction of Seminary artist-in-residence Robert Bergt. The concerts will take place in the Seminary’s Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. There is no admission charge and no tickets are issued.

Performances of Bach at the Sem scheduled for the 2006-2007 season include:

Sunday, November 5, 3:00 p.m.—Organ recital and motets by The American Kantorei. Dennis Bergin, organ; Robert Bergt, Music Director and Conductor.

Sunday, December 3, 3:00 p.m.—Bach, Magnificat in D Major; Cantata 50, Nun ist das Heil (Now Salvation Has Come).

Sunday, January 21, 3:00 p.m.—Guest organist, Lynn Trapp, St. Olaf Parish and Seminary, Minneapolis, Minn. Bach, Praeludium in G Major and the Passacaglia in C Minor; Chorale Preludes and Variations on Nun komm der Heiden Heiland, Herr Jesus Christ, wir sind hier, Liebster Herr Jesus, dich zu uns Wend, O Gott, du frommer Gott. Violinist, John McGrosso, member of the Arianna String Quartet, St. Louis. Bach, Unaccompanied Violin Sonata 2 in A Minor.

Sunday, February 11, 3:00 p.m.—Bach, Cantata 80, Ein’ feste Burg ist unser Gott (A Mighty Fortress Is Our God), original orchestration; Cantata 118, O Jesu Christ, mein’s Lebens Licht (O Jesus Christ, My Life and Light).

Sunday, April 1, 3:00 p.m.—Bach, Cantata 182, Himmelskönig, sei willkommen (Welcome, King of Heaven); Motet 1, Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (Sing to the Lord a New Song); Cantata 49, Ich geh’ und suche mit Verlangen (I Go and Search with Longing).

The American Kantorei is a choral and orchestral ensemble dedicated to the performance of church music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Neoclassical periods. The works of J. S. Bach form the core of its repertoire. Music director and conductor Robert Bergt is known internationally as an orchestral and choral conductor and as a Bach scholar. Bach at the Sem is funded largely through the generosity of individual supporters.
