Workshop focuses on ministry and law enforcement
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and Peace Officers Ministry, Inc. (POM) will host “Christian Law Enforcement Chaplaincy—Theology and Practice,” May 23-27 on the Seminary campus.
The workshop offers unique accredited training for chaplains, peace officers and pastors, focusing on effective Christian ministry to and through law enforcement.
Key principles that participants can expect to take away with them after attending the workshop include: understanding law enforcement as vocation (God’s calling); applying Law and Gospel and God’s two kingdoms within a law enforcement context; and employing Christian stress management and officer spiritual survival strategies.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Course Component fulfills DHS guidelines for first responders. The critical incident stress management section fulfills basic group debriefing requirements from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.
Rev. Frank Ruffatto, executive director and chaplain of POM, will serve as the Monday morning speaker. Other presenters include Stephanie Abernethy, widow of slain Houston police officer Timothy Abernethy, and Michael Dahmer, expert in national security, counterterrorism and homeland security.
Registration is $450, and includes on-campus meals, materials and continuing education units. Limited on-campus housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Housing is dormitory style with shared bathrooms and showers. Rooms are on the second floor and are not handicapped accessible. Rates are $45 per night for single or couple, and $30 per night for a shared room.
The registration deadline is May 16. To register, visit www.csl.edu/resources/continuinged/cle-chaplaincy/.
