Summer Lay Bible Institute set for Aug.4
One-day seminar explores practical ways to serve
Registration is now open for Concordia Seminary’s Summer Lay Bible Institute Aug. 4, which will explore practical ways that Christians can serve.
Dr. Mart Thompson, associate professor of Practical Theology and director of the Specific Ministry Pastor Program, will lead the one-day workshop, “You Are a Royal Priesthood: God Calls All Christians to Serve.” The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. in Sieck Hall 202 on campus, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO 63105.
God’s Word teaches that all Christians share God’s grace with others. Pastors and laypeople complement one another in service to the Gospel. This session of the Summer Lay Bible Institute will study what the Bible teaches about the universal priesthood of all the baptized and provide practical ways in which they can serve one another with the Gospel.
“Every Christian is baptized into the priesthood of all believers!” said Thompson. “Laypeople in the church serve in important ways that complement and support the ministry of pastors. Consider how God has called you to serve. What does the Bible say about the service of God’s priesthood? What are some ways congregations can support this work? How does it give glory to Christ? These are important questions for every Christian.”
The registration deadline is July 23. Cost is $20 per person.
