Concordia Seminary’s Call Day 2019 set for May 1
Students to receive calls, assignments for service to The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis invites the public to share in the excitement of Call Day Wednesday, May 1, during two services in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus on campus, 801 Seminary Place, Clayton, Mo.
Concluding students will receive their first pastoral or diaconal ministry placements, and second-year students will receive their vicarage or internship assignments. All calls and assignments for service are to churches or ministries within The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).
Students who will serve a year as vicars or deaconess interns will receive their assignments at a worship service starting at 3 p.m. (CDT). Rev. Richard Snow, president, LCMS Nebraska District will preach.
At 7 p.m. (CDT), candidates for the pastoral and diaconal ministry will receive their first calls to serve as pastors, deaconesses, chaplains and missionaries of the LCMS. Rev. Scott Sailer, president, LCMS South Dakota District, will preach.
“Excitement grows as the students wait to find out where they will serve as deaconesses, vicars and pastors. Some of the students have set their phones on countdown mode. When I ask them how long it is until the service begins, they can tell me right to the minute and second,” remarked Dr. Glenn Nielsen, director of Placement and director of Vicarage and Deaconess Internships. “I use the word ‘sacred’ to describe the ministries to which they will be called. Serving in the pastoral or diaconal office is a privilege granted by our gracious Lord. So in the days leading up to Call Day, we pray the Holy Spirit will be at work leading those involved in the call process to place a student in that sacred place, whether a congregation, institution or even overseas.”
Concordia Seminary will provide a free live stream of Call Day services at callday.csl.edu. The Seminary’s Help Desk will be staffed to handle support calls at 866-333-2064 and 314-505-7231. A test stream will be available before the event so viewers may test their computers in advance.
Calls and assignments will be shared on Twitter in real time during both services. Join in the excitement by sharing Call Day watch party photos and student congratulations using the hashtags #CallDay2019 and #CallDayWatchParty.
