Dear alumni

My sin is great. But Christ’s forgiveness is greater.
We are in the heart of the season of Lent. Throughout these 40 days we set aside Wednesday nights for church, we spend extra time in devotion, perhaps we give something up. But most importantly, the 40 days of Lent draw our hearts to the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
People describe Lent as a journey to the cross with our Lord. Indeed, let us go with Him to that sacred hill, where our Lord was crucified for the sins of the world. There, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). How deeply He has loved us. How powerfully He has saved us.
As we come to the most holy week of the year, let our time be dominated by His Word. Let our thoughts be guided by the Bible, God’s life-giving revelation. Let our conversations be sprinkled with the salt of these sacred writings. Let our hearts be brought to repentance and faith, continually, by hearing the very Word of Christ. For God has given us His Word, that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and by believing have life in His name (John 20:31).
And let us rejoice continually, for Jesus has borne our sins and our sorrows. He was crucified for us. Your sins are great, but Christ’s forgiveness is greater.
And let us also journey on to the empty tomb, that the words of that first resurrection Sunday may be on our lips and may invigorate our lives. Because He lives, we also live — now and into all eternity.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.
In Christ’s love,
