Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will host its 8th Annual Day of Homiletical Reflection on Wednesday, May 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the Seminary’s Clara and Spencer Werner Auditorium. The event is designed for pastors, students involved in homiletical education, and others interested in the proclamation of the Gospel in today’s world. The registration fee for the Day of Homiletical Reflection is $25.

The Rev. Dr. Paul Scott Wilson, professor of homiletics at Emmanuel College in Toronto, will speak on “Preaching as Speaking for God.”

Wilson is past president of the Academy of Homiletics and leads workshops, preaches, and lectures widely in the United States, Canada, and Europe. He has written many books on the subject of preaching. He is an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada and he has recently served as an honorary associate minister in Mississauga for 13 years where his duties included regular preaching and youth ministry.

Sectional presentations include “Recovering a Lost Art” by Dr. Wilson; “Amos: Restore the Roar!” by Dr. Reed Lessing, associate professor of exegetical theology and director of the Graduate School at Concordia Seminary; and “Preaching a Sigh: Kierkegaard’s Corrective of the Perennial Problem in Lutheran Preaching” by David Coe, a Ph.D. candidate in Modern World studies at Concordia Seminary.

The Day of Homiletical Reflection combines the annual Wenchel Lecture that promotes critical thought about preaching and practical enhancement in this art with the Ernie and Elsie Schneider Endowment for Excellence in Preaching that fosters support for innovative 21st century proclamation.
