More than 40 Attend "Shepherds of God's Flock" Retreat

More than 40 participants, including 30 prospective students took part in the "Shepherds of God's Flock" retreat, Jan. 5-7, 1999 on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. This retreat, the first of its kind at Concordia Seminary, offered participants the opportunity to explore the decision of whether or not to prepare to serve in the pastoral ministry through a study of Scripture, the Lutheran confessions, prayer, and discussions with many in the Seminary community. In addition, panel discussions with pastors, missionaries and chaplains gave participants the opportunity to learn about the joys and challenges involved in this type of service.

Despite weather conditions which made travel challenging, retreat participants came from as far away as California and Florida. One participant commented "I was extremely impressed. The sessions and people were wonderful. This was an excellent opportunity." Another participant added "This retreat has certainly helped focus me on my goal of entering the seminary."

"We are delighted with what has taken place on this campus over the past few days," commented Rev. David Faulkner, Admission Counselor at Concordia Seminary. "Many good comments were heard from participants indicating that this retreat was helpful for them as they contemplate the decision of whether or not to prepare for service in the pastoral ministry. We plan to make this retreat an annual event on our campus."
