‘Hoops for Hope’ alumni game supports Lutheran Hope Center
Basketball game will feature current players vs. alumni
In what might become a match for the ages, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis students will face off against alumni — now serving as pastors — in a special “Hoops for Hope” alumni basketball game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.
Current Concordia Seminary Preachers basketball players will take to the court against the alumni. The game, which will be the last of the season for the current team, will foster a friendly competition while also supporting the Lutheran Hope Center in Ferguson, Mo.
The Lutheran Hope Center is a partnership of five Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregations in north St. Louis County — Salem Lutheran Church, Blessed Savior Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church, Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church. The center serves to share the hope of Jesus Christ by providing opportunities for youth and families to grow spiritually, academically, socially and personally. Rev. Micah Glenn (’16) serves as executive director. An offering will be collected at the game.
“Many former ‘Preachers’ have fond memories of playing on the Seminary basketball team,” said Dr. Peter Nafzger, assistant professor of Practical Theology and event organizer. “On the court, they learned a lot about working together with their future colleagues in ministry. Now those current pastors have a chance to play against the current team, all in support of an important local mission. What a great excuse to come together for a game!”
The game will be played at the Pederson Fieldhouse, located on the campus of Concordia Seminary, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, Mo. Alumni players interested in playing are encouraged to reach out to Nafzger at [email protected].
