Fall assignments, call announced
Five Concordia Seminary, St. Louis students recently celebrated vicarage assignments and call placements to serve congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). The students were recognized in chapel Friday.
One Master of Divinity Student, Jacob Schultz, received his first call to Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Mo., in the LCMS Missouri District.
“Whenever a student receives an assignment as a vicar or a call into the ministry, the Seminary community rejoices along with the student, his family and friends,” said Dr. Glenn Nielsen, director of Placement and director of Vicarage and Deaconess Internships. “Years of study and formative experiences have brought Jacob to this day of celebration.”
One Residential Alternate Route (RAR) student, LeRoy Raynor, received a vicarage assignment to Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Ontario, Ore., in the LCMS Northwest District.
Three Center for Hispanic Studies (CHS) students received vicarage assignments in Houston, Texas, in the LCMS Texas District: José Argueta to Iglesia Cristiana Emanuel, Baudilio Herrera to Iglesia Gloria Dei and Jesús Santos to Centro Familiar Cristiano – Spring Branch.
“LeRoy begins his full-time practical experience that may lead to a call at this congregation,” Nielsen said. “The three students in the Center for Hispanic Studies continue their ministry in context, but are now officially recognized as vicars by the Seminary and the LCMS. Today is indeed a joyous day.”
The Seminary celebrates assignment services throughout the year for students enrolled in special programs such as CHS, RAR and others. The Seminary’s primary Call Day is held in the spring when students receive their first calls to ministry as well as assignments for vicarage and deaconess internships. Call Day is set for May 1, 2019.
