Concordia Seminary Press of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis is offering a new one-year sermon series as a free download, 66 Texts from 66 Books: A One Year Preaching Schedule by Dr. Paul Deterding.
 
The series offers preachers the opportunity to preach a text from each book of the entire Bible in one church year. This preaching schedule is not meant to displace a regular use of the common lectionary, but to give pastors and congregations an opportunity to look at the entire sweep of the biblical witness.
 
“At a time when biblical literacy, both inside and outside the church, is declining, 66 Texts from 66 Books gives pastors and congregations a chance to hear the Word of God from each and every book of the Bible,” said Dr. Travis Scholl, managing editor of Seminary Publications at Concordia Seminary. “I know I’ve never preached from Nahum or Haggai, so there’s a good challenge here for all of us.”
 
In order to cover all books of the Bible, the schedule offers a text for every Sunday in a church year, plus texts for three midweek Advent services and six midweek Lenten services, as well as services for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Thanksgiving.
 
The sermon series is available as a free download from the Concordia Theology website. The series is reproducible for congregational use.
 
Deterding serves as dean of chapel and chairman of the religion department at Saint Paul Lutheran High School, Concordia, Missouri, and an adjunct professor at Concordia University, Nebraska, Seward. His publications include the Bible studies Daniel and Haggai/Zechariah/Malachi in the God’s Word for Today series and the Concordia Commentary volume Colossians.
