Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Manteufel

Professor Emeritus Systematic Theology

Dr. Thomas E. Manteufel is a professor emeritus of Systematic Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

He retired in 2009 after 30 years of distinguished service as associate professor of Systematic Theology. He received his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) from Concordia Seminary (1968, 1975); his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Ind. (1964); and his Associate of Arts (A.A.) from Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn. (now Concordia University, St. Paul) (1962). He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Iowa (1988).

Before joining the Seminary, he served as pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma, Iowa (1969-77).

His books include Martin Luther and the Concept of Opus Operation (University of Iowa) and Churches in America (Concordia Publishing House).

He and his wife, Berdeen, have one son, Matthew.
