Dr. Mark Seifrid
Professor Emeritus of Exegetical Theology
Dr. Mark Seifrid is a professor emeritus of Exegetical Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
He retired in 2024 after nine years of distinguished service. At the time of his retirement, he was professor of Exegetical Theology.
Seifrid joined the Seminary faculty in 2015. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in New Testament from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J. (1990); and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill. (1984). He also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in chemistry from the University of Illinois in Champaign (1975).
He has published major works on justification in the New Testament and a commentary on 2 Corinthians, and is currently writing a commentary on Galatians. He has published numerous articles on Pauline theology and the doctrine of justification — in particular articulating a Lutheran view of justification as drawn from the Pauline Epistles. He taught New Testament interpretation at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., for more than two decades. He also served as the Ernest and Mildred Hogan Chair in New Testament Interpretation at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
