Description

Biblical Archeology for the Parish Pastor
In this workshop we will look the ways that some familiarity with the methods and results of archaeology can enhance both our understanding and teaching of the Old Testament. Topics explored include the history of biblical archaeology, the use and misuse of archaeology in the study of the Bible, an introduction to archaeological method, a survey of selected sites, archaeological hoaxes, frauds, and mistakes, and a day in the life of the average Israelite.
Dr. David Adams
Professor of Exegetical Theology, and W.G. Ray and Louis J. Rechtzigel Professor of Biblical Studies
Dr. David Adams joined Concordia Seminary’s faculty in 2000. During the past 20 years, he has brought his wide-ranging interests from philosophy to archaeology to the classroom. His major accomplishments include writing the study notes for the Psalms and Old Testament Wisdom Literature in the ESV Archaeology Study Bible (Crossway, 2018). He also was centrally involved in the archaeological dig at Khirbet Qeiyafa from which an inscription was unearthed that provides historical evidence for the existence of King David and the united monarchy in 2007. He is best known for his work on the Old Testament and has devoted much of his time to thinking through a Lutheran theology of the Old Testament with a special focus on the presence of God.
